Between Les Sables D’Olonne (home to the Vendée Globe) and La Tranche Sur Mer, Longeville is ideally situated to explore the Vendée region. Whether you prefer to rest and read a good book or are interested in sports or nature, there is something for everyone. The cherry on top is that Longeville is not too big, and, unlike many other seaside resorts, is not overexploited. Busy in the summer months, it remains human and welcoming and has all the necessary amenities to make your stay enjoyable.
Grocery Shopping
If you enjoy wandering through the markets in France, fresh, local produce can be found at the twice weekly market in the centre of town (every Monday and Friday). Anything else can be found either at the Casino supermarket or the Vival grocery store in the centre of town. Just 15 minutes from the residence is the Super U (close to La Tranche),it is certain to stock all the rest. No need to go that far however, if you have forgotten something as the little shop set up for those at the Zagarella Campsite just opposite the entrance to the residence stocks most of the essentials.
Bakeries
There are two bakeries in the centre of town (LES PETITS PAINS & ALA MY DE PAIN) and one just round the corner from the house (ALA MY DE PAIN), close to the beach of Le Rocher. You will find, not only the reputed”baguette” but also local specialities such as “Préfou” of garlic or cheese, “Gache” or “brioche Vendéenne”. If, like us, you don't want to trudge to the beach in the morning, just pop into the aforementionned campsite to get fresh bread and croissants.
Daily Press and Internet access
At the height of the summer season, British dailies can easily be found either from the local newsagent’s (TOUTE LA PRESSE).
British press can also be found round the corner near the beach (Le Rocher), or even closer to home at the campsite. If all else fails, you can head to Super U.
Whilst the house does not yet have internet access, you can still be connected to the outside world as a wireless connection is available at the tourist office or at the newsagent’s (TOUTE LA PRESSE).
Medical facilities
Anyone with children might occaionally need to see a doctor (as we found out). Should you or they require to see the doctor, two GPs are available in the centre of town (Dr BIRE - BORDAGE Sylvie & Dr CHEVALLIER Claude). Any medication can be obtained from the chemist in the centre of town. Hospitals are located in La Roche sur Yon, Les Sables d’Olonne or Chateau d’Olonne.
